I feel as though I should write up a Brown entry, but there's too much to say. It was a fantastic experience learning wise and I absolutely fell in love with the school. Anddd, I could go on for days about the awesome group of people I met. It was really nice to just fall into place with a tight knit group so easily. This past weekend was spectacular: met some great kids, observed some great techno dance, went to Boston, bought a sword and walked around looking like a pirate in the pouring rain, realized that I suck at super smash brothers, wrote a paper about Throwdown, found out that an all day communal nap is the best way to spend a Sunday, ice cream eating contest went down, sang Good Charlotte, laughed sosososo hard for literally half an hour, etc, etc!

Oh & there have been two armed robberies of summer students this week. One at night and one during the day.

Things are good here at Brown. I really love my class. Providence is great, its pretty much the perfect city for me: it's smaller & navigable, it has colonial, old New England charm, but has a great artsy/bohemian/pretty much every crazy subculture you could think of feel to it. I really, really, really miss everyone though & Fairfield itself. I've met some super interesting people & a lot that are just...not so much. And apparently there are two girls here from Fairfield, but I have no idea who they are. And since I've been here I only want to listen to hardcore. I'm not really sure why.

Independence Day:
Downtown hangz with Charlotte & Manuel. Downtown was so empty it was eerie...there were of course two hotties chillin in a jeep & serenading us with James Blunt, however! And thank goodness for that! We voyaged to Cumby's for gigantic slurpies (in patriotic colors of course) and then back to Borders to read Renaissance magazine...to which I will subscribe forthwith! Then we hung at beach for the rest of the night, eating tuna melts, dissing on Christopher Shays parties, being invaded by white trash and the like until the fireworks. Afterwards it took like an hour to get home & en route we encountered a ten year old hoochie mama with sparklers and beer belly mid-life crisis fireworks men. It was amazing.

It pretty much started with Thursday afternoon & buying Novick and Parisi a tree, then subsequently spending 5 hours making a card with quotes that summed up what AmStud means/is/was. Got two hours of sleep that night. Went in for the AmStud final...swayed to "America," discussed our loves, cracked up about Robert Frost, cried while writing reflections, and then died laughing watching Parisi on American Gladiator. Then took my Chem final. Ugh.

Thennn...Barbara, Charlotte and I hit up Blockbuster to find AmStud themed movies & pretty much failed. Got Waiting for Guffman and Thumbsucker. Finally made our way to Beachfest whereupon we had the world's greatest dance sesh during Tribe Suburbia & Joesoup. And then the adrenaline rush ended so we stopped at Las Vetas for some energy and while we were on the way home we were stopped at the stoplight across from the town green where the gazebo is and the sprinklers were on. So a mass, "OMGOMGOMG, BARBARA PULL OVER!!!" occured & we went insane and frolicked through the sprinklers in a very public display of amazingness. Drove home soaking wet blasting Good Charlotte, Halifax, and terrible English rappers.

Woke up at 5:00 Saturday morning to go to O'Rourke's. Heard the lovely dream that Charlotte had. Met up with all the girls and made our way to Middletown, driving like 90 miles an hour. Didn't get lost! Had amazing food, eggs, bacon, Irish bacon, fingerling potatoes, various breads, kiwi!, etc... Used all of my quarters in the jukebox to play "Gettin' Jiggy With It" among other classic songs. Took pictures outside of O'Rourke's, & said our goodbyes. (Oh and found out about Novick's Jesus costume!) Drove home blasting Spice Girls, Gogol Bordello, Jay-Z, and Weezer. Apparently missed out on some high-octane races! Spent some time out by the pool with all the AmStud girls. Then it got wittled down to just Charlotte, Barbara and I again.

Decided to go to the beach. Had ice cream. Tried to take pictures of ourselves laying in a circle...failed, completely. Um, seagulls?! Haha, AMAZING. Then went for dinner at Rawley's (also AMAZING), pumped up The Darkness & went and sat in the gazebo. Made friends with a little girl who was eating at Centro. Great Novick-centric conversation. I made a good call on walking to 7-11 to get slurpies. Frawg, much? Walked over to Borders only to find Sam Carlson, some good laughs, lots of Bob Dylan, and ourselves spilling said slurpies all over the CD section. The drive home was a Dylan celebration. "Like a Rolling Stone" came on as we pulled into the driveway so the three of us sat in the car and listened to it all the way through & that was officially goodbye to AmStud for me. I realized that I had been turned loose. And it was empowering & sad & great & scary & beautiful & it made me love life. We went inside and finally watched Thumbsucker (which was a great movie). I fell in love with Lou Taylor Pucci ("If I married him I could be Mrs. Katie Lou...is the cat Pucci. HAHAHA, THAT'S LIKE CAT AND POOCHIE!) Pretty much fell asleep and ended the streak of greatness with the tired departure of Barbara and Charlotte & now I'm having withdrawals! THE END!

I am so sick right now & I can't even sleep. I'm feverish & delirious & it's really frustrating. I feel like I'm missing everything, and getting behind in everything. I have so much work to do but I just physically can't do it. And I've been really sad about missing American Studies. I went to bed at 6:30 last night just in hopes of going to school at least for Am Stud, because I knew we were having a discussion, but I just couldn'ttt. And it's not happening tomorrow either. I want to be able to savor the last few days of this class, but my body won't let meeeeee. It is sososo frustrating. Except how hilarious would it be if I read Billy Budd in my absence? Well, I suppose I should do a San Fran update! Um, well...the whole trip was just sosososo amazing and good for me. It was exactly what I needed right when I needed it. I was on top of a mountain, on the beach, inside of a redwood tree, inside a prison cell, pretty much living in Amoeba Music, at an earthquake party, watching way more Gilmore Girls and SVU than is probably healthy, dancing with motherfucking Blake Sennett and feeling great about life 24/7. I love to travel by myself because it forces me to act as my pure self and nothing else. I don't have to worry about the preconceived notions of people I know, and I don't have anything to rely or lean on. It's just me and the world, take it or leave it.

April 16:
My flight was at 7:30 Easter morning, so needless to say I was incredibly tired and the sheer length of the flight took its toll on me. I felt like a 7 year old, I was so excited and anxious to get to San Francisco! Once I did get there, I was so happy to be met by the little seen face of my cousin Andrea and get into a car whose stereo was playing Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Everything was so green and pretty and the citizens of the Castro were out in full force for Easter brunch. I've never seen so many Easter bonnets!

April 17:
The day started off at China Beach which was beautiful and then we proceeded to some shopping in the Haight. I've never felt more at home than when I was in the Haight. I could just feel energy and passion and youth all around but at the same time there was a cool slacker element to it. All I know is that I could very easily live the rest of my days in Amoeba (aka heaven), and that my prom dress is amazing. Then we ate lunch in North Beach and I saw where the whole beat culture came to life. Then a quick stop at Fisherman's Wharf (aahhh! tourists!) to pick up Alcatraz tickets. Thennn we headed down to Bottom of the Hill to the Say Anything show to find that it was sold out. I was pretty bummed, but when we got home I had two voicemails to cheer me up one from Shaant from CIWWAF and the other from Greg Wood from Punchline. And we ended up having dinner at a taqueria where Beck once played an impromptu set only to be confronted by an angry mariachi band, so all was not lost!

April 18:
Easily one of the best days of my life. I was at complete ease with the world and myself, with only The Elected, a five pound bag of jellybeans, some good company, and sheer nature to blame! We drove over the bridge to Marin county to take a little hike through Muir Woods where all the Redwood and Sequoia trees are and then drove all the way up Mount Tamalpais to be met with one of the most amazing views I've ever been witness to and then all the way down it to Stinson Beach where I went in the Pacific Ocean for the first time in my life. And we ended the day at an earthquake party, because it was the 100th anniversary, at which I ate the most sinfully horrible pizza ever, viewed the most amazingly bad movie ever, inadvertenly became a very creepy person and ate jello!

Alcatraz was pretty cool. I felt like I got a lot more out of the tour than most people might because of American Studies, Parisi would have been proud. There were just too many people there though, there were lots of nuns! Afterwards we went to Hard Rock for appetizers and had the biggest tool of a waiter ever.

April 20:
I've never been so excited by art before! We spent a ton of time in the SFMOMA and I pretty much bought out the entire gift shop for Caroline and Robert. Took it easy after lunch and watched Tivoed episodes of Gilmore Girls and SVU and then went to pick up Aunt Susan and Uncle Andy at the airport. They took us to a diner for obligatory cheese fries and gravy (don't hate of the cf&g!) And we drove home through the Tenderloin, which was interesting because of its proximity to the really touristy area of San Fran. No pictures for some reason!

April 21:
My last day in San Francisco made me just oh so content and thrilled to be alive and in love with music, but mostly just in love with Blake Sennett and beautiful strangers. We spent the morning in the Mission, got coffee and did some shopping. Aquarius Records was pretty amazing...if I had a record store, that's what it would be like...except with lower prices. Then we spent the afternoon shopping in Union Square with Aunt Susan after lunch at a really nice Southeast Asian restaurant. We hit up Nordstrom and Anthropologie (two pairs of shorts for $40...aka steal of the century!), and quite a few shoe stores. Then we met Uncle Andy back at their hotel and ate at the hotel restaurant, Cortez, which was way too pretentious for my tastes, but the food was good. And then...and then...THE ELECTED SHOW! For those of you who may not know, The Elected is Blake Sennett, the guitarist from Rilo Kiley's side project, and Andrea and I are both majorly obsessed with RK, Blake, The Elected...pretty much the whole shebang. Oh, and not to mention the fact that Blake was Ronnie on Salute Your Shorts and Joey the Rat on Boy Meets World, yesss! The minute we walked in, Norfolk and Western was playing and Blake comes over from the bar and starts dancing with us, and we pretty much died and spent a good ten minutes freaking out. But, that aside, the show was so good. Jake Bellows from Neva Dinova played a solo set which was amazing. And the Elected put on such a mindblowing show it was ridiculous. The chemistry between Blake and Mike Bloom is a beautiful thing, and they're just such honest to goodness talented musicians. I knew they would play a good show, but I never imagined it would be THAT good! So, after the show was over I was approached by this gorgeous boy who comes over to me and says something to the effect of, "I was sitting in the back doing some sketches and I drew this for you," and hands me the sweetest sketch of myself, and I like automatically fall in love and go crazy over this guy thanking him and dying and then he's gone and I don't even know his name and I'm stupid and didn't have him sign his sketch and now I'll never see him again, ever. But still...wow. Haha, so after that we went over and talked to Blake for a while and took some obligatory pictures and realized that three so unphotogenic people should never be in a picture together and cracked up at the hideousness of about 30 previous attempts before finally getting a halfway decent looking photograph. He was just such a nice and geniune guy who seemed to always be having a good time and didn't mind having a real conversation with us. It felt so good. We got home at 1:30 (which made it officially Andrea's birthday!) and had to leave at 5:15 for the airport the next morning which meant getting less than an hour of reluctant sleep. And then I went home, and that was that!

Life is happening. I am confused. I got a 1970 on my PSATS with a perfect score on the writing part, but that's old news. My god damnnn laptop is fixed, I hope. The answer to everyone's question is yes, I broke up with him. Let's not talk about that, okay? I got speakers for my iPod & a fucking ton of amazing books for Christmas. Caroline & I just watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I guess I should start giving a disclaimer speech too: "Too many guys think I'm a concept or I complete them or I'm going to make them alive, but I'm just a fucked up girl who is looking for my own peace of mind. Don't assign me yours." I guess I'm just really sad.

There's this part of me that I've been smothering for a while, and I'm getting back in touch with it. The side of me that is most happy spending Saturday afternoons alone in the public library listening to Steel Train can breathe again.
